If your door came off track, a cable snapped, or your vehicle is trapped, do not attempt to force the door or pull the red emergency release cord while the door is elevated or crooked. An unsupported door can free-fall with hundreds of pounds of force. Clear all family members and pets from the garage area.
From broken high-cycle springs and frayed aircraft cables to computerized opener diagnostics, independent technicians are equipped with standard replacement parts for same-day service.
Torsion and extension springs counterbalance 150 to 300+ lbs of dead door weight. When a spring snaps, the door cannot lift. Technicians replace damaged springs with high-cycle oil-tempered springs calibrated to your door's exact weight and height.
Is your motor clicking or humming without moving the carriage? We troubleshoot stripped internal nylon drive gears, blown capacitors, misaligned safety sensors, burned-out logic boards, and transmitter signal interference across all major brands.
Lift cables carry the full mechanical tension transferred from the torsion shaft drums to the bottom fixtures. Frayed or snapped cables cause the door to jam sideways. Technicians safely secure the assembly and install 7x19 aircraft-grade steel cables.
Impacts from vehicles, loose wall brackets, or snapped cables can force rollers out of the vertical track. Operating an off-track door bends the steel tracks and damages door panels. Technicians reset rollers, true the tracks, and reinforce wall framing.
Screeching, grinding, or jerky door movement usually signals worn metal rollers or cracked stamped-steel hinges. Technicians upgrade failed hardware to high-density nylon rollers with 13-ball-bearing seals for silent, vibration-free travel.
Prevent emergency breakdowns with comprehensive safety testing. Technicians perform manual door balance checks, tension adjustments, non-silicone track lubrication, hinge tightening, opener sensitivity tuning, and safety photo-eye calibration.
Looking for new sectional overhead door installation, panel replacement following vehicle or storm damage, or heavy-duty commercial roll-up door service?
When an automatic opener malfunctions, pinpointing whether the failure is electrical, optical, or mechanical saves time and avoids needless replacement. Experienced technicians diagnose and repair all drive systems across Texas.
If the motor hums or whines inside the ceiling unit but the chain or belt does not turn, the internal nylon drive gear has stripped. Technicians install heavy-duty gear and sprocket replacement kits on-site.
Flashing overhead lights or an opener that refuses to travel down typically indicates infrared sensor fault codes. Technicians inspect optical lenses, wiring staples, and logic board sensor input terminals.
Upgrade older, noisy chain-drive units to whisper-quiet steel-reinforced rubber belt drives or wall-mount jackshaft openers featuring battery backup and smartphone control.
Recognizing the early warning signs of overhead door failure helps prevent further mechanical damage, costly panel bending, or emergency lock-ins.
Likely Cause: A torsion or extension spring has fractured under extreme metal fatigue.
What to do: Do not touch the opener button. Visually inspect the spring above the door for a 2-inch break. Call for spring replacement immediately.
Likely Cause: Optical safety sensor beam misaligned, blocked by debris, or downward force limit set too sensitively.
What to do: Clear leaves or cobwebs from the photo-eyes. If alignment lights flicker, have an expert recalibrate travel limits.
Likely Cause: One lifting cable has snapped or slipped off its grooved drum, causing the door to rack diagonally.
What to do: Stop operating immediately. Forcing a crooked door causes track buckling and catastrophic roller pop-out.
Likely Cause: Stripped internal nylon gear assembly or broken emergency release carriage latch.
What to do: Check if the manual disconnect handle is engaged. If engaged and still spinning, replace the internal gear set.
Likely Cause: Unlubricated metal hinges, seized roller ball bearings, or dry torsion spring coils.
What to do: Never spray standard WD-40 (which strips grease). Apply dedicated garage door lubricant or replace worn metal rollers.
Likely Cause: Broken spring preventing counterweight lift, or opener upward force limit reached due to heavy friction.
What to do: Do not repeatedly press the wall button. Excess strain will permanently burn out the motor windings. Call for service.
A standard residential overhead door is the largest, heaviest moving mechanical object in any home. Attempting DIY repairs on high-tension components leads to thousands of emergency room injuries every year.
Torsion springs store over 300 inch-pounds of torque. Unwinding or adjusting a torsion spring cone with improvised screwdrivers or pipes can cause tools to violently kick back, causing severe facial, hand, or head fractures.
Double-car steel and wooden garage doors weigh between 150 and 400+ lbs. If bottom cable brackets are loosened while under tension, the door can drop instantly without warning, crushing limbs or damaging vehicles.
Properly balanced garage doors should lift with only 10 to 15 lbs of human force. An incorrectly wound spring will prematurely strip gearboxes, warp track headers, and void opener warranties.

Having a few basic details helps dispatchers match the right specialist equipped with suitable parts:
Clear, practical answers regarding broken springs, opener failures, repair costs, and safety precautions.
A broken torsion spring is usually noticeable by a visible 1- to 2-inch gap in the coil mounted horizontally above your garage door. Homeowners often hear a loud gunshot-like bang from the garage when the spring snaps under tension. Additionally, the door will feel extremely heavy to lift manually (over 150-250 lbs), or the opener motor will strain, lift the door only 2-6 inches, and immediately shut down.
No. You should never attempt to operate an automatic garage door opener or manually lift a door with a broken spring. Without counterbalance spring tension, the full weight of the steel or wood door pulls directly against the opener's motor and drive gear, which can strip the nylon gears or burn out the motor. Manually lifting an unbalanced door poses severe risk of personal injury or catastrophic free-fall if dropped.
This is most commonly caused by optical safety sensor misalignment or obstruction. Photo-eye sensors located 4 to 6 inches above the floor on each side of the track emit an invisible infrared beam. If dust, leaves, cobwebs, or a misaligned bracket breaks the connection, the opener reverses as a federally mandated child-safety protection. Other causes include excessive down-force travel limits or binding track rollers.
Repair costs depend on several specific factors: whether the door uses standard torsion springs or extension springs, the wire gauge and cycle rating of replacement parts, single vs. double door weight, and whether cables or drums were damaged when the spring snapped. For openers, costs depend on whether the issue is a simple capacitor or sensor replacement versus a stripped gear kit or full motor replacement. Technicians provide an on-site physical inspection and a clear written estimate before any work begins.
Technician arrival times vary depending on your specific Texas municipality, current dispatch schedule, traffic, and weather conditions. Independent technicians operating throughout major Texas metropolitan areas prioritize urgent safety situations—such as vehicles trapped inside garages or off-track doors hanging precariously. Calling (800) 240-4326 allows dispatchers to immediately check real-time availability in your zip code.
If your opener is under 10-12 years old and manufactured by a major brand (such as LiftMaster, Chamberlain, or Genie), replacing stripped drive gears, safety sensors, or logic boards is often cost-effective. However, if your opener is older than 15 years, lacks modern rolling-code security, produces excessive motor noise, or was built before modern UL 325 auto-reversing safety standards, replacing it with a quiet belt-drive or smart Wi-Fi unit is generally the safer, longer-lasting investment.
To help the dispatcher assist you as quickly as possible, check: (1) whether the door is single-car or double-car, (2) the brand of your opener if visible (e.g., LiftMaster, Craftsman, Genie), (3) whether you hear motor humming without door movement, and (4) whether there is a visible break in the spring or dangling cables. If a car is stuck inside, let the representative know immediately.
Yes. In addition to residential sectional doors, independent service technicians in our network handle light and heavy commercial overhead doors, security rolling steel grilles, dock doors, and commercial jackshaft/hoist operators across Texas commercial facilities and warehouses.
